Alone with his acoustic guitar
and harmonica, Big Poppa E is
a mesmerizing performer. But
the Miami-based bluesman can
be equally captivating with a
full band providing the colors
and textures that allow him to
explore his jazzier inclinations.
Of course, it helps that Poppa
possesses deeply soulful

classics by Bill Withers. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that his E Band
includes blues and jazz stalwarts such as guitarist and keyboardist

In 1997, when this native Brooklynite
moved to Miami and received his name
from Mandrill’s guitarist Tommy Trujillo,
the die was cast. He realized at that
point, by leaving his familiar NYC to
conquer new lands, he was stepping into
his destiny.
His resume prior to that point was
impressive. As a member of The
CityKids Foundation’s repertory
company, and later an alumnus, he was
able to hone his craft with performances
in high schools, prisons, as well as on
Broadway and TV with countless
celebrities. He performed his first
original composition with jazz legends
Herbie Hancock and Branford Marsalis
and then again with the late, great
Grover Washington Jr. at age 17.
In 1994 he started his first band "eli & the bluesound project" and
continued sharpening his performance chops while stretching the
boundaries of music on the New York scene. After two years, the band
had run its course and Big Brooklyn Red went on to sign a
production/management deal. While that particular effort never bore
fruit, it gave him the opportunity to work with Ivan Hampden and
Paulette McWilliams. Ivan was Luther Vandross’ drummer and Paulette
was the linchpin of Luther’s inimitable background vocals. It was a
master class. “I was a bad motherfucker before that, but Paulette made
me razor sharp.”
Only six months after moving to Miami, Big Brooklyn Red became
known as the premier soul singer in South Florida. His trademark
freestyles made each performance one of a kind. Born from the
difficulty of getting musicians to rehearse, his live performances in
Miami were often complete improvisations. “That’s where the magic is
for me,” Brooklyn says. “To just open your mouth and listen to what
God might have me say. The better I sound, the better the song is, the
more humble it makes me.”
At the end of 2002, with the help of his grandmother, Big Brooklyn Red
bought a motor-home; packed up all his worldly possessions, his then
girlfriend and his dog Lulu and set out on a grassroots tour of the U.S.
He used this opportunity to promote the release of his first album
Foreword while also singing the National Anthem for NFL and NBA
games, as well as doing open mics and featured performances in cities
along the way. Each stop along the road brought him to venues where
he belonged, such as the stage of the world famous Black Lily in
Philadelphia. He met artists who were doing Soul music with the same
passion and work ethic he himself possessed. Heston in Atlanta, Fertile
Ground in Baltimore, W. Ellington Felton, Raheem De Vaughn and K’
Allyn in DC.
Big Brooklyn Red is a performance driven artist. Since 2000, he has
averaged over 50 shows per year. He continues to connect and build
with his fellow soul artists by doing gigs in NYC, Atlanta, Chicago, Philly,
New Orleans and D.C. Since the release of Foreword and subsequent
recordings, he has balanced the presentation of his recorded material
with showcasing his improvisational talent, and the freestyles are easily
the most anticipated part of his live show. He won’t repeat a phrase he
sang before and he never takes the easy way out.
In 2007 TruSoul Entertainment released Big Brooklyn Red’s mix tape,
Unrehearsed Vol.1. It features freestyle one-take recordings over
recognizable tracks. It is the application of Brooklyn’s organic process to
Hip-Hop.
His next album, Answer The Call will be available in stores and on-line in
June 2008. Meanwhile he continues to record and perform around the
world. He may currently be seen on MTV Italia in DJ Jad’s video for "By
My Side"

Diablo Dimes is Blues, Americana,

The flower child of Psychedelic Cuban
Blues, SOL, was born in the magic city
between the sun and the supernova. The
Neo Hippie Rain Maker of Cuban decent
from Miami, uses the cultural mix of her
environment along with the influences of
the Gritty Blues from the Dirty South, to
evolve her music to what it is today. The
Cuban essence is there, son underlying
her own music just as it does nearly all
the music actually from her native
country. But there's much, much more
than homage to her heritage. There's
jazz from the golden era of the genre,
when throaty, smoky voiced sirens lit
smokier still clubs afire with their
seductive vocals. And the blues run
rampant. She channels Billie Holiday,
Celia Cruz and Janis Joplin. Listen to her
music and you become a believer, instantly converted to her gospel of
classic sounds and varied styles presented with a new and unique twist.
"Sol's music could easily rock the ties off music industry execs looking
for a hit on commercial airwaves, while other songs could just as easily
work their way around the more pensive college radio circuit."(Miami
New Times) She is probably the closest thing to pass for a description
of an artist as easy to label as trying to catch wind in a bottle. Sol has
just released her second album "Outlander", produced by Bobby
MacIntyre at Studio 71 in Miami, and has toured throughout the US
and Europe frequently. To learn more about Sol visit:

Felipe funded his own Orchestra called Oni-Ache, traveling to Sao Paulo,
Brazil in 1992 for a musical exchange program with the University of
Sao Paulo and went on to live in Brazil for seven year. After moving to
the United States in 1999, he started playing locally with great artists
such as the late Celia Cruz, and also began performing regularly with
Grammy Award-winner Arturo Sandoval since 2001. Felipe had the
opportunity to participate in the recording of Arturo's album Trumpet
Evolution along with two DVD releases (Live at Blue Note NYC and Live
at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival) as well as performing all over the
world and participating in some of the most important Jazz festivals in
America and Europe where he shared the stage with Herbie Hancock,
Michael Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, Eldar, Marcus Miller and others. It was
later in 2004 when Felipe joined the Grammy Award-winner Gonzalo
Rubalcaba, recording his Grammy Award-nominated album Paseo
released by the prestigious Blue Note Records. Around this time he kept
on performing for two years with the New Cuban Quartet all over the
world. In 2006 he arranged and played on Ignacio Berroa’s new album
Codes, also released by Blue Note Records and nominated for a
Grammy as well. This led to performing with Mr. Berroa’s quartet in
diverse tours. Recently Felipe worked as a producer in Arturo Sandoval’s
latest album Rumba Palace, being in charge for all the arrangement
and composing, which won a Grammy Award in 2008. By the end of
2007 his first solo album Dimensions, recorded in Brazil, was released.
This project incorporates his Afro-cuban roots with strong influences of
Jazz and Brazilian music. "I can assure you no other place in the world
deserves my solo debut more. I really hope that everyone who in one
way or another has followed and supported my music through all these
years can enjoy this album and receive my sincere thanks through all
my music."
