Song: "Parchman Farm"
The old blues man Bukka White did time on Parchman Farm, still the maximum security lockup
in Mississippi, and the inspiration for Mose Allison's up-beat jazz version that E covers here. E's
portrayal of the brutish life there takes us a long, long way from Allison's playfully cool tune.
Stripped down to E's measured voice, the tune's double-tracked upper- and lower-range
harmonicas provide all the imagery you need to understand what was really behind Allison's
lyric. Highly original effort (thh)

Song: "Parchman Farm"
Harmonica players' delight! Don't know how E does it but he fills the room with one instrument
and his voice. A real experience for musicians and listeners of all genres and styles. If I were
asked to give a rating from 1 star to 5 stars, I guess I'd have to give 6.

Soulful ideas
Reviewer: Mark Clayson
For years vocalist-guitarist-harp player E has been bringing new lifeblood to the blues
via his dual knockout talents. And while his later recordings reveal a consistently
maturing artist, this 2006 debut album shows that the New York native had the goods
right from the get-go. E sings with honesty, subtlety, and persuasion while playing the
guitar and harp with head-shaking authority, both as accompanist--he offers amazing
asides in between vocal phrases--and as an absolutely A-one improviser.
Indeed, it is remarkable to hear him weave his gifts into a wondrous whole. E presents
one winner after another. "Yellow Dress" is typical, a selection where it is all but
impossible not to tap your foot. After a nicely enunciated vocal--he slides
into phrases much like John Lee Hooker--the guitar and harp cooks in his own personal
style, playing soulful ideas that fall easily on the ear, underwritten by his rock-solid feel
for time. "Talking To The Air" is another example of E's ability to sing and heat things up
a with a nonstop groove. "If I'd Known" is slower and features a deeply bluesy vocal;
"It Ain't Been Easy" is equally sultry. The classic ballad "Just The Two of Us" finds him
singing with intimacy and playing with a caressing touch. A very impressive start for a
very impressive artist.

the trees.. Thanks again.

Sometimes you just want to keep it real. E always does... with his un-altered
instruments and vocals as they came into this world. Beautiful and heartfelt, his soul
oozes out in all directions and you can't help but feel happiness, pain, heartbreak, and
bliss. Close your eyes and remember why you loved music in the first place.

Refreshing to Hear A new Approach
Reviewer: Casey, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Vocalist/guitarist/harp player E breaks new ground interpreting classic blues standards
by Howlin' Wolf, Ray Charles, and Nina Simone, as well as compositions by himself. E's
guitar-harp credits comes through loudly and clearly on his Ray Charles-styled version of
"Georgia On My Mind".
Mesmerising stuff!!!
Reviewer: Patse Hemsley, United Kingdom
When I saw Voodoo Child listed on this album, I groaned, thinking that there are some
songs that really should be left alone, and Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" is one of them. It's
sacred to me... at least it was until I heard E's rendition which stopped me in my tracks,
and reminded me that E doesn't do "shoulds". His version is softer yet darker, more
shadowy and powerful, and sneaks up on you to prise both mind and heart open. Like
the other tracks on this album, his blues harp and voice keeps you coming back for more.
The world needs more of this richness in it’s music.
Reviewer: Zosar Music/S.M., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Mississippi Reminiscence is a collection of quality material performed with raw honesty. E’
s Rendition of “Long Distance Call,” starts with a guitar intro that is played skillfully with
his innermost emotions, it’s followed by his majestic storytelling vocals. E’s work is pure
artistry. The world needs more of this richness in it’s music.
Nice to hear the blues done like it used to be
Reviewer: Angel, Buenos Aires, Argentina FIVE LONG YEARS: A TRIBUTE TO CAREY BELL
is an 10-song collection that captures the New York-born bluesman in full swing, and at
the top of his game. It could also be called his strongest, most cohesive release to date.
E--for the few still unknowing--is the 58-year old sensation whose sultry, heavy-hitting
vocals and strikingly guitar and harp-playing has helped him transcend barriers of genre
to become a popular artist of the first order who has carved himself a permanent
position at the top of the blues charts. In songs, mood, and delivery, FIVE LONG YEARS
reveals E's personal ardor for that golden era of song-making, when Muddy Waters,
Howlin', and (especially) Carey Bell were in their prime. It's musical territory that E has
often explored, but this album was certainly not a case of simply repeating past
formulas -- inspiration was kept on an edge, unhindered by the studio environment.
Sweet Medicine
Reviewer: Jillianne Wright
As soon as E's free flowing songs slide into action I feel the pulse rate and blood
pressure drop. I didn't realise this was a 'classic' cover because it has such a distinctive
individualism about it. I wonder how much planning goes into these songs because it
sounds like the notes just fall into place and have a little dance with themselves
(around the Blues Master) finding the most congenial shapes and sounds between
them.

Song: "You Just Can't Smile It Away"
The World and everything in it stands still while you listen to this song. It's all about
listening, listening to every breath, every squeeze of emotion, every lick of the lips.
Underneath the rich expressive E vocals there is a musical conversation, the strings are
stubborn they each make their point like a gentle poke in the ribs - I see them as the
lady in this piece protesting a little but finally open to suggestion. I'm pretty sure I've
never heard the original artist's recording but I'm also pretty sure I'll never here this
song performed with so much love and conviction ever again - Jilly
